Frank Schulte Spalding "Autograph" model bat dating from the 1910s. This is one of the finest examples of this scarce retail-model bat we have ever seen. The three center-brand stampings are all bold and well-defined, including Schulte's facsimile signature in the middle. The Spalding logo is stamped on the knob. Schulte was the National League MVP in 1911 and one of the Chicago Cubs' top players between the years 1905 and 1915, which probably ensured that this example was a best seller in most Chicago sporting-goods stores at the time. The bat, which could be bought either in-store or through the Spalding mail-order catalog, displays light use, including a few cleat marks on the barrel and a small crack in the handle.
