Trophy awarded to legendary boxer Sugar Ray Robinson in 1947. The gold-colored trophy, mounted upon a wooden base, features a generic boxing figure on top. The engraved metal plaque attached to the base reads "World/Welterweight Champion/1947/Ray Robinson." We don't know which organization presented this trophy to Robinson, but he most likely received it while attending a civic banquet held in his honor. Robinson, who is regarded by most boxing experts as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in boxing history, was the World Welterweight Champion from 1946 to 1951 and later also held the World Middleweight title on two separate occasions. The trophy displays light-to-moderate wear, including a tiny indentation to the metal cup, and the boxing figure may have been repainted. Base: 5.5x5.5". Height: 15.5 inches.
