Rare 1935 Cincinnati Reds regular-season program for a game against the Boston Braves with Babe Ruth listed in the lineup for the Braves. This program, which is not scored, dates from a three-game series between the Reds and Braves held at Crosley Field from May 26th through May 28th. Ruth played in two of the three games, which is significant, because he played in only two more games, on May 29th and May 30th, before retiring from baseball. Therefore, this program commemorates one the last games of Ruth's fabled career. Ruth is listed batting third and playing left field for the Braves. Ruth went hitless in four at bats in the May 26th game and then sat out the May 27th game. In the final game of the series, on May 28th, Ruth walked in two at bats. This game was especially painful for him, as he was playing with a pulled muscle and the Reds players made an effort to hit the ball his way, knowing he couldn't run. Midway through the game, Ruth pulled himself from the lineup. He slowly walked off the field amid a bevy of boos from the crowd, bypassing the dugout and heading straight to the clubhouse. It was a sad and ignominious departure for the man who was once the greatest star the game had ever seen. Although the program is not dated, the year, "1935," is printed on the cover. Despite the absence of a specific date, the three-game May series vs. Cincinnati was the only time Boston visited Cincinnati in 1935 while Ruth was on the team. The twenty-page program displays a slight vertical fold and a few minor creases to the covers. In Very Good condition overall.
