"Don't look back; something might be gaining on you," is a part of Leroy "Satchel" Paige's advice on successful living. But even Satchel Paige himself would admit to the joy of indulging in a bit of nostalgia. Offered is a Viz Ed Big League Baseball Viewer, something like a View Master, a stereoscope, in which a "wheel" (a card) of six photos of Paige in his pitching motion are displayed. Thus, by turning the wheel, Paige's pitching motion can be viewed, in a series of sepia photos, as if he is pitching. The Baseball Viewer measures approximately 3x3". It is in its original 3x3x3" cardboard box, although the box has (included) a top and tabs that have separated. Paige pitched in the Negro Leagues from 1926-47. He was primarily with the Kansas City Monarchs, but often pitched with other teams in the Negro Leagues in exhibition games, and he also traveled all of the baseball world to pitch for various clubs, sometimes pitching in over two hundred games in a year. Paige was signed by Bill Veeck to play for the Cleveland Indians in July of 1948. He had a 6-1 record, with a 2.48 ERA, and in 1948, he became the first African American player to pitch in a World Series game. After leaving the Major Leagues, Paige continued to pitch in the minor leagues and for barnstorming teams. The Big League Baseball viewer comes with an ideal viewer card, the great Satchel Paige. In fact, Paige was so amazing thatm in 1965, in a special appearance in a regular season game, he pitched three scoreless innings for the Kansas City Athletics, when he was 59 years old. But age never seemed to matter to Paige, As he said, "Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter." This item is a treat. The Big League viewer is very rare, and Satchel Paige is simply one of a kind.
