Addition (6/11 - 2:10 pm) - This ring is a size 13 and weighs 47 grams.
Addendum (5/23 - 2:39 pm) - This ring was issued to minor-league manager Dave Miley, not a scout as originally described. We have amended the description accordingly.
2009 New York Yankees World Series
Championship ring issued to Dave Miley, who was manager of the club’s AAA
minor-league affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in 2009. The 14K white
gold ring, manufactured by Balfour, is identical to that received by the
Yankees players that season. The left shank of the ring is engraved "World
Champions", and under that is an engraved image of Yankee Stadium. and
lower down is engraved "Unity". On the right shank is engraved
"Miley", the Yankee logo, and "Tradition". Inside the left
ring band is engraved an image of Yankee Stadium and "Yankee Stadium
Inaugural Season" and inside the right ring band is engraved "Balfour
(c) 14K".
Managed by Joe Girardi, the Yankees defeated
the Minnesota Twins in the 2009 Divisional Series in three games and beat the
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in six games to win the pennant. Then the Yankees
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to capture their 27th World
Championship. The Yankees had plenty of power in '09. The leading homer hitters
and their totals: Mark Teixeira (39), Alex Rodriguez (30), Nick Swisher (29),
Hideki Matsui (28), Robinson Cano (25), Johnny Damon (24), and Jorge Posada
(22). Hall of Famer Derek Jeter led the regulars with a .334 batting average.
Key pitchers and their win totals: C.C. Sabathia (19), Andy Pettitte (14), and
AJ. Burnett (13). Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera had 44 saves.
Dave Miley, who also managed the Cincinnati
Reds for three seasons (2003-2005), managed the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
from 2007 to 2015. Miley led Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to the International League
Championship and the club's first Governor’s Cup Championship in 2008 and was named
manager of the year in both 2007 and 2012. The ring size is 12.5, and it comes
with its original box, which measures 2.75" x 2.75" x 2.25". The
top of the attractive box reads, "World Champions 2009", and exhibits
the Yankee interlocking NY logo. There is a slight bit of wear to the interior
of the box. Overall, the ring is in EX-MT condition. The images of Yankee
Stadium on the ring represent the new Yankee Stadium which opened in time for
this 2009 season, and the '09 World Series Championship is the last for the
Yankee "Core Four" of Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, and Rivera - and the
most recent Yankee World Championship - so the beautiful ring is loaded with
significance.
