If a collector wants to collect World Series pins, the New York Yankees are the perfect team with which to begin. Presented is a wonderful collection of 13 New York Yankee World Series press pins. No other professional United States sports team comes close to the Yankees' 28 World Championships. The closest other baseball team is the St. Louis Cardinals, with 11 World Series wins. The closest in all U.S. pro sports is the Boston Celtics, with 17 championships. These pins are as beautiful as they are varied. The 1950 pin is for the Series in which the Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, the famous Whiz Kids. Of course, the 1955 pins represent the first and only time that the Brooklyn Dodgers won a World Series. The 1960 pin includes a striking raised image of Yankee manager Casey Stengel. That is ironic, because when the Yankees lost the 1960 Series to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Stengel was fired. The 1961 pin was the year of the M and M Boys, Mantle and Maris, and their pursuit of Babe Ruth's record of 60 homers in a season. The 2003 pin was issued for the World Series that was won by the Miami Marlins over the Yankees, the team of Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettitte - the famous Core Four. Overall, the pins are in excellent condition, and they have great eye appeal with their varied designs and logos. The collection is comprised of the following press pins: 1942, 1950, 1955 (2), 1958 (2), 1960, 1961, 1963, and 2003. This colorful press pin collection will add value to any sports memorabilia assemblage.
