Ty Cobb is a baseball immortal, having been one of only five inaugural inductees to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Displayed is a signed check by this all-time great. Ty Cobb hit .366 lifetime, the highest average in MLB history. Along the way, the Georgia Peach was a 12-time American league batting champion, and he hit over .400 three times. Cobb had great natural ability, but he also achieved his success because of his tenacity and his smarts. For example, when games weren't close, Cobb would take reckless chances on the basepaths. His secret was that even if he were thrown out, his daring would plant a seed in the opponents' minds, so that in a future contest, the defensive would make mistakes by always being wary of what Cobb would do next on the basepaths. Cobb played from 1905 through 1928, and all but two of those 24 seasons were with the Detroit Tigers. The check is drawn on the First Bank of California, from a San Franscisco branch. It measures 3.1" x 8.1" and it has been written by Cobb and signed as "Tyrus R. Cobb". The check is in the amount of $64.00, and it is written to a Carl [last name unclear]. The check, dated June 28, 1935, has been encapsulated and certified by PSA/DNA as AUTHENTIC AUTO. Cobb became an extremely wealthy man through early investments in Coca-Cola and General Motors, so a signed Ty Cobb check is a fitting memento from him.
