Dave Steib had already started 375 games in his Major League career when he took the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays as the team visited the Cleveland Indians at Cleveland Stadium on September 2, 1990. On four separate occasions, Steib had gone into a ball game working on a no-hitter, and he had lost his no-hit bid each time. The Blue Jays had a 2-0 lead going into the ninth inning, and Steib once more was close to a no-hitter. With two outs and a man on first via a walk, Steib faced Jerry Browne and induced Browne to fly out to right field for the final out and the first, and only, no-hitter in Blue Jays' history.
