Dave Steib had already started 375 games in his Major League career when he took the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays as the team visited the Cleveland Indians at Cleveland Stadium on September 2, 1990. On four separate occasions, Steib had gone into a ball game working on a no-hitter, and he had lost his no-hit bid each time. The Blue Jays had a 2-0 lead going into the ninth inning, and Steib once more was close to a no-hitter. With two outs and a man on first via a walk, Steib faced Jerry Browne and induced Browne to fly out to right field for the final out and the first, and only, no-hitter in Blue Jays' history. This item consists of two game used baseballs from the no-hitter, both signed and inscribed by Steib. 1) On an Official American League Ball (Bobby Brown), Steib signed on the sweet spot, in neat, handwriting. Steib also inscribed the ball "No Hitter 9-2-90". The ball shows appropriate use. 2) On another Official American League Ball (Bobby Brown), Steib signed on the sweet spot in neat handwriting with a ballpoint pen. This ball also shows appropriate use. Steib also inscribed "No Hitter 9-2-90". Steib had run into some bad luck in his earlier attempts at a no-hitter. After no hitting the Indians, Steib said, "I didn't have control. They hit balls right at people." Maybe fate had finally been kind to Steib as he threw his no hit gem. Each baseball shows appropriate use. The offering is really a two-for one opportunity for a rare memento.
