Displayed is a vintage pennant for a true powerhouse team, the 1937 New York Yankees. The team won the American League pennant with a record of 102-52-3. Managed by Hall of Fame manager Joe McCarthy, the Yankees won the World Series in five games against their neighbors, the New York Giants. The Bronx Bombers' pitching was led by Red Ruffing, who was 20-7, and Lefty Gomez, who went 21-11. As for batting, catcher Bill Dickey hit .332, with 29 home runs and 133 RBIs. First baseman Lou Gehrig hit .351, with 37 homers and 158 RBIs. Joe DiMaggio led the offense by hitting .346, with 46 home runs and 167 RBIs. The pennant is approximately 8.25" at its highest point, and it is approximately 29" long. The pennant appears to have been originally red, white, and blue, with the colors exhibiting fading over the years. The pennant has a few pinholes, probably from when it was displayed. The very tip of the pennant, less than an inch, is missing. Considering its age, the pennant is in good condition. The pennant features the New York Yankee logo and shows the team as the 1937 American League champion. Names printed on the pennant: DiMaggio, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Dickey, Malone, Hadley, Crosetti, Rolfe, Powell, Johnson, Selkirk, Pearson, Hoag, Murphy, and Gomez. The pennant is a significant keepsake that recalls one of the Yankees' most powerful teams.
