Offered is an extremely rare umpire's ring awarded to National League umpire Lou Jorda after his umpiring in the 1949 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Umpire World Series rings are so rare because the arbiter rings that we have seen are different from the player versions and the number of players' World Series rings is always much more than the number of umpire rings. The Yankees won the 1949 World Series by a 4-1 margin over Brooklyn. Future American League President Bobby Brown led the Yankees in batting average for the Series at .500. Joe DiMaggio hit only .111 on 2-for-18. Allie Reynolds had a 1-0 record with an ERA of .000 as he won his only start and also pitched effectively in relief. Pee Wee Reese led the Dodgers in batting at .316 for the Series, and Preacher Roe won Brooklyn's only game in throwing a complete game shutout. Hall of Famers for the 1949 Yankees were Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Johnny Mize, and manager Casey Stengel. Hall of Famers for Brooklyn on the 1949 squad were Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, and also Gil Hodges, scheduled to be posthumously inducted in 2022. Lou Jorda was a former minor league catcher who umpired in the National League from 1927-1931 and again from 1941-1951. He umpired 2,509 games in the Major leagues, as well as two All-Star Games, and two World Series. Jorda, and fellow umps Beans Reardon and Larry Goetz, were featured the famous Norman Rockwell painting Bottom of the Sixth.
