"I just wouldn't have believed a ball could be hit that hard. I've never seen anything like it," said Washington Senators' manager Bucky Harris after Mickey Mantle hit his famous 565-foot home run out of Griffith Stadium on April 17, 1954. Mantle wound up with 536 lifetime homers, and he and Roger Maris captured the attention of the nation in 1961 when they both chased Babe Ruth's single season homer record of 60. The 20-time All-Star was a 3-time AL MVP. He won a Triple Crown, hit a career .298, won a Gold Glove, and was a key part of seven New York Yankee World Champions. As his Yankee manager, Casey Stengel, said, "That guy can hit balls over tall buildings." Presented is a Mantle signed Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat that the Hall of Fame slugger neatly signed in blue marker. The bat is 35" in length and is an M110 "Genuine Mickey Mantle" model. The bat is in excellent condition, and it is a fitting memento of one of baseball's greatest hitters.
