Cut signature of Hall of Fame manager John McGraw. PSA has encapsulated the cut and certified the signature as "Authentic." McGraw's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen on a cut portion of a bank check and grades 9/10. McGraw died in 1934 and his signature has always been among the more elusive for Hall of Fame autograph collectors. Interestingly, most of the examples circulating in the hobby today are cuts taken from checks such as this. The reason for that is that in the years following his death, autograph collectors routinely wrote to McGraw's wife asking her for signatures of her husband. The only examples she had at the time were on his canceled checks. She normally cut the signatures from the checks and sent them back to the collectors. Of course, her supply of canceled checks was not infinite and the demand quickly exceeded the supply, resulting in the scarcity of McGraw signatures today. The cut (4x1") is in Excellent condition and has been affixed to a lined index card.
