Although he was often referred to as "Wilt the Stilt," Wilt Chamberlain hated the nickname - because he thought it sounded as if it referred to some bestial bird - and he preferred being called "The Big Dipper." Wilt's preferential nickname is understandable, and the enormity of his accomplishments seem more fitting with the celestial moniker. Offered is a Wilt Chamberlain autograph signed on the cover of a fascinating program from the "Salute to Great Tradition of Philadelphia Basketball" program held on April 25, 1988 in Philadelphia. Chamberlain grew up in Philadelphia, starred at Overbrook High School, and played for both the Philadelphia Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers. Chamberlain is the only man in pro basketball history to average over 50 points a game for a season. He once scored 100 points is a game, and he was a 4-time NBA MVP, a 7-time scoring leader, an 11-time rebound leader, and helped to win two NBA Championships. The 8.5x11" program lists among the many attendees such great Philadelphia basketball legends as: Julius Erving, Hal Greer, Tom Gola, Wali Jones, Chet Walker, Paul Arizin, coach Harry Litwack, and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe. The program includes numerous photos and detailed articles about many aspects of Philadelphia basketball, including wonderful stories about the African American and Jewish contributions to basketball in the City of Brotherly Love. Chamberlain was at the basketball affair and his autograph is clearly signed in pen. PSA LOA.
