Original Type I photo of New York Giants infielder Eddie Grant taken by renowned baseball photographer Charles Conlon. Grant is pictured as he takes a cut during pregame batting practice. Conlon’s handwritten credit appears on the reverse, as does Grant’s name and team affiliation, which is also written in Conlon’s hand. Additional editorial notations are also present, some of which have been crossed out. Grant, a Harvard graduate, enjoyed a modest ten-year Major League career, playing with several clubs between the years 1906 and 1915. However, he is best remembered today for being the first Major League player to enlist in World War I and the first Major League player to be killed during the conflict. The photo (7.25x9.5”) is slightly trimmed and displays a small tear along the top border and moderate creasing. In Good to Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
