1996 Keyshawn Johnson New York Jets rookie road jersey conclusively photo matched to his cover photo on the 1997 Street & Smith Pro Football Yearbook. The photo of Johnson on the cover, which was taken at an unspecified road game the previous season, pictures him extending for a catch, with the front of his uniform fully visible. Based on that image, Sports Investors Authentication was able to match ten specific points along the numerals that identify the jersey as the one Johnson is wearing in the photo. The white mesh jersey features the number 19 on the front, back, and each shoulder. "Johnson" is lettered on a white mesh nameplate on the reverse. All numerals are applied in green on back tackle twill, while all letters are applied in green tackle twill. The sleeves have been custom cut for Johnson. Located on the left front tail are two different Champion labels. The first is a wash tag bearing the size, 44. The second is an exclusivity tag bearing the Jets team name and logo, and is lettered Designed & Tailored Exclusively for New York Jets 1995. The 1995 year designation is not in error. This is a 1995 Jets jersey that was stripped of its numerals and nameplate and then issued to Johnson the following season, complete with the number and name change. (One can easily see the stitch outlines of the formal numerals and name plate). The fact that the changes took place prior to Johnson wearing it are confirmed by the photo match. It also indicates that this was most likely Johnson's first issued road jersey. The jersey displays outstanding use including several scuffs and paint transfers. Johnson was the number one overall pick in the 1996 NFL draft and despite the pressures that come with that honor, he performed well for the Jets during his rookie season. Playing in 14 games, Johnson had 63 receptions for 844 yards and scored 8 touchdowns. Two years later, Johnson helped lead the Jets to the AFC title game, where they lost to the Denver Broncos. Johnson played four seasons with the Jets before being traded to Tampa Bay, where he won a Super Bowl. One of the top wide receivers of his era, Johnson was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and totaled over 1,000 receiving yards on four separate occasions.
