Original Type I photograph picturing President William Howard Taft enjoying a baseball game between the Cubs and Giants in Chicago. As noted by the handwritten caption on the reverse, the gentleman seated next to Taft is Charles Deneen, who was Governor of Illinois from 1905 to 1913. Taft’s association with baseball is well documented, as he was the first President to throw out the season’s ceremonial first pitch in 1910. His attendance at a Cubs game is not surprising given that his brother, Charles Taft, was an early investor in the club and later owned the team outright for two seasons (1914-1916). Six Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with handwritten editorial notations. The photo measures 8x6” and displays a few light surface wrinkles. EX. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
