A rare boxing cabinet card of George Seddons, Sam Hurst, & Arthur Chambers. Chambers was born in 1846 and died in 1923. He served in the Royal Navy before becoming a professional boxer in 1864. In 1872, he became the Lightweight Champion of America and ultimately became a member of the Ring Magazine Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. After boxing, he opened a successful saloon and was a financial backer of John L. Sullivan. Sam Hurst was a giant of a man standing approximately 6'3" and of a tremendous weight for the time. Ironically called the Stalybridge Infant, he was champion of England but had a short-lived boxing career due to his slow style and poor endurance. Seddons was a little-known British boxer (although he did fight Chambers) who had a short-lived career. The card measures 6.5x4.5" and was produced by Howell in Broadway. It is in GD condition with corner rounding. This is an iconic image of the bareknuckle era and is often reproduced in various modern prints and mediums.
