This incredible display features the original track-worn July 22, 2006 San Diego Handicap saddlecloth and winning shoes of race winner Giacomo, whose greatest claim to fame is winning the 2005 Kentucky Derby as one of the longest shots in the history of the Run for the Roses. Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, trained by John Shirreffs and owned and raced by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, Giacomo was a relatively lightly raced Kentucky Derby champion with a lifetime record of three victories in 16 total starts. This attractive mahogany wood shadowbox display measuring 21x25.5" showcases the embroidered twill saddlecloth bearing Giacomo's name and race entry number "6" along with the four original racing plates, still encrusted with dirt from the race. It should be noted that any original tack subsequently worn by any Kentucky Derby winner is considered a major find in the sports memorabilia community. The opportunity to own an original saddlecloth and complete set of winning shoes from such a significant race is likely a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
