This collection of memorabilia from legendary champion and two-time Horse of the Year John Henry features his authentic grooming brush and curry comb as well as a selection of original track programs.

Both John Henry's grooming brush and curry comb originate from the Hall of Champions at the Kentucky Horse Park where the great gelding resided during his well-deserved retirement from racing. Such was John Henry's stature there that he commanded his own individual grooming brush and curry comb. The well-worn wooden oval grooming brush with handle strap and the black plastic curry comb look as if they have seen plenty of use, which would make sense as John Henry was was resident royalty there until his death in 2007 at the venerable age of 32.

In a phenomenal racing career spanning seven years and 83 starts, John Henry showed his excellence on both dirt and grass, winning 39 races, with 15 second-place finishes and and nine shows for career earnings of $6,591,860, including the esteemed Jockey Club Gold Cup, Sword Dancer Handicap, Sunset Handicap; the prestigious Arlington Million and Santa Anita Handicaps twice; and three wins in both the Hollywood Invitational Handicap and Oak Tree Turf Championship. John Henry earned numerous Eclipse Awards and was named Horse of the Year in 1981, and remarkably again in 1984 at the age of 9.

The programs in this offering feature nine rarely seen track programs from some of his notable starts during the years 1980-1984, including his winning efforts in the: 1983 Hollywood Turf Cup, 1984 San Luis Rey, 1984 Arlington Million, and the 1984 Turf Classic (which also features the great Hall of Fame mare and 1983 Horse of the Year All Along). Better still, three of the programs are hand-signed by Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron, who was his regular rider during the 1983 and 1984 racing seasons. As an added bonus, the lot also includes three commemorative portrait prints of John Henry, which also feature his complete list of past performances on the reverse.
