This collection of books is from the personal collection of the late famed sports journalist and author William Nack, who is best known for his definitive literary work on the 1973 Triple Crown champion Secretariat. This grouping includes all four editions of this masterful work beginning with the rare first edition hardback Big Red of Meadow Stable: Secretariat, The Making of a Champion, published by Arthur Field in 1975. The collection also includes the De Capo Press soft-cover editions entitled Secretariat: the Making of a Champion published in 1988 with tan cover and black and white image of Secretariat and jockey Ron Turcotte and the 2002 edition with green cover and head-on photo of Secretariat. This collection also contains the most recent edition Secretariat published by Hyperion in 2010 featuring actress Diane Lane on the cover, which was released in conjunction with the popular Disney major motion picture of the same name. Also included in the auction lot is the bonus book My Turf published by Da Capo Press in 2004. This compendium contains some of Mr. Nack's most acclaimed sports articles including "Pure Heart" the poignant story of Secretariat's death that was originally published in Sports Illustrated in 1990. Finally, the offering includes a wonderful Letter of Provenance from Mr. Nack's widow Carolyn Starek, hand-written on Nack's own personal Sports Illustrated notepad. A wonderful addition to any sporting library or Secretariat collection - about as close as it gets straight from the horse's mouth.
