This unique grouping of collectible trading cards represents the five Kentucky Derby victories of jockey Eddie Arcaro, each hand-signed by the Hall of Fame jockey. Known simply as "The Master" for his comprehensive riding skills, he is considered one of the best known and most accomplished jockeys ever in Thoroughbred racing. In a career spanning 30 years he won 4,779 races. He was a two-time winner of the sport's pinnacle achievement of the Triple Crown, first with Whirlaway in 1941 and then with Citation in 1948. Individually, he holds the record for the most wins in the Kentucky Derby (5, a record he shares with Bill Hartack), Preakness (6), and Belmont Stakes (6).

This set of trading cards represents Arcaro's five Kentucky Derby champions: Lawrin (1938), Whirlaway (1941), Hoop Jr. (1945), Citation (1948), and Hill Gail (1952). The cards were produced by Horse Star Cards Inc. as part of their 1991 Kentucky Derby collection. Each distinctive green and gray bordered card features the Kentucky Derby winner on the front and comprehensive information and statistics on the reverse. What makes this particular set so special is that each card carries the individual hand-signed signature of Arcaro, who died in 1997. Compared to the collectible trading cards representing baseball and other major sports, relatively few pieces were produced in the series, and those containing the late rider's authentic autograph are considered especially rare.
