This grouping of bobbleheads featuring Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel represent a collectible dream offering. The history of the set begins in 2007 when Calvin Borel won his first Kentucky Derby aboard Street Sense. Two years later in 2009, Borel won the Kentucky Oaks (the prestigious 3-year-old filly counterpart race to the Derby) by 21 lengths aboard the great Rachel Alexandra, then stunned the racing world the next day winning the Kentucky Derby aboard Mine that Bird at 50-1 odds. Such was the popularity of Borel that Churchill Downs honored the rider with his own bobblehead featuring Borel wearing the black silks of Mine That Bird as a 7,500-piece promotional giveaway.

Additionally, the much rarer Calvin Borel Rachel Alexandra version bobble was produced as a special 500 total piece limited edition, featuring Borel in the white winning colors of owner Dolphus Morrrison, and sold to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. The following year, Borel became one of the few jockeys to become a back-to-back winner of the Run for the Roses, when he guided Super Saver to victory in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Once again a 500 piece limited-edition bobble was produced, this one featuring Borel in the white WinStar farm silks, raising three fingers signifying his trio of Derby triumphs.

Only the most discerning bobblehead collectors know a fourth Calvin Borel bobble exists. This one, produced as an extremely rare split-silks prototype features Borel wearing the Mine that Bird silks in the front and Rachel Alexandra silks in the back. Only one case of approximately 24 total pieces was ever produced, with the majority going to the Borel family for their own personal use. Lelands is very proud to offer all four Calvin Borel editions in this auction. Better still, the Rachel Alexandra and Super Saver versions come with their own numbered certificate cards hand-signed in silver by Borel, with both featuring the matching and extremely low edition numbers of #5/500.
