Amazing 1919 American League Player's Contract issued to and signed by New York Yankees catcher Muddy Ruel, who is perhaps best remembered for his defensive prowess and as "personal catcher" for Hall of Famer Walter Johnson. When the 4-fold document is unfolded it measures 8.5x28" and has a splendid cream tone with a small tear at one fold. Not only is it signed by Ruel (under his given name Herald), but AL President Ban Johnson and then-Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert have added theirs as well. Date-stamped April 12, 1919, the contract remains in EX condition. Ruel's annual salary for 1919 was a robust $2,400.
