Astonishing boxing artifacts from the renowned Billy Haack collection were worn by young Middleweight idol, Stanley Ketchel on May 18, 1909 in Pittsburgh, PA, against Hugh McCann. Pair of brown D&M gloves bear the label of the manufacturer in the lining, as well as the handwritten name, “Ketchel” in each (light but legible). With original laces, they show great use and wear with some crazing from age and use and some slightly shredded leather by the contact points. These were given to old time referee/fight promoter Billy Haack in the Memphis area. Memorabilia from this fallen star is all too rare as he was murdered in 1910 at the age of 24, having posted a record of 52-4-4. Beautifully framed in a shadowbox to 20.5x13.5", comes with a photocopy of a LOA by Craig Hamilton in which he details the provenance; Hamilton originally wrote "To my knowledge these gloves from the Billy Haack Collection are the only known gloves of Stanley Ketchel." Also in the frame is a T-218 boxing card of Ketchel, though we're unable to determine its authenticity without disassembling the frame.
