Impressive quality in this 1898 cabinet card of Light Heavyweight boxing standout Jack Root, depicted in the classic pugilist's pose in this 4.25x6.25" classic. Front is clean, signed and inscribed on the back and the piece rates Very Good overall with 7.5/10 signature. To this day, there is some dispute as to whether Root was the first-ever Light Heavyweight Champion, but he was certainly a very early one. He lost his only challenge to the Heavyweight Championship in 1905, and finished his career with a 47-3-3 record. Encapsulated by PSA as Authentic Autograph
