This amazing collection, decades in the making, showcases an amazing grouping of official Kentucky Derby julep cups. With its inception in 1875, the Kentucky Derby is the oldest consecutively run sporting event in America and the most recognizable to racing fans across the globe. One of the Derby's great traditions is the mint julep, and for more than 80 years Churchill Downs has been producing an official julep glass annually to toast the "Run for the Roses." Excluding the nearly impossible-to-find early Derby glasses of 1938-1940 and the World War II era plastic Beetleware variety, this collection represents every single official Derby glass produced from its inception to the recently released 2021 Kentucky Derby 147 edition. The collection features several of the rare short-run and misprint editions as well as those most coveted by collectors, including an original 1940 French Lick Aluminum Cup, 1945 Short glass, 1956 three tails and two stars variation, 1974 Federal, and 2006 Secretariat track record version. Totaling 90 glasses in all, it is one of the most complete Derby Glass collections ever publicly auctioned.
