These historic winning shoes were worn by the luminary racehorse Medaglia d'Oro. The pair was worn in the Aug 4, 2002 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Racecourse. Trained by Bobby Frankel and ridden by Jerry Bailey, both Hall of Famers, Medaglia d'Oro’s dominating victory by nearly 14 lengths was a spectacular racing performance. Medaglia d'Oro won several other prestigious stakes races, including the San Felipe and Travers in 2002 as well as the Oaklawn and Donn Handicap in 2003. Overall, he retired from racing with eight victories and career earnings of more than $5.7 million. However, those figures pale in comparison to his value at stud. As one of America's most valuable and influential stallions, Medaglia d'Oro has sired 142 stakes winners to date, including the outstanding fillies Plum Pretty and Songbird, as well as the great 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. Currently, Medaglia d' Oro stands at Darley Stud in Lexington, Kentucky, with a whopping $200,000 breeding fee. The winning pair of shoes is mounted on a 12x18" large walnut plaque featuring a Barbara Livingston photo of Medaglia d'Oro and brass halter tag nameplate. The shoes were secured by his farrier Ray Amato, and a letter of authenticity accompanying the shoes states the same.
