In 1953, Topps created a beautiful, hand-painted set of 274 cards, to compete with an equally beautiful Bowman offering that same year. 271 of those beautiful pasteboards are offered here, missing only #’s 122, 147 (Spahn) and 274 for completion (note that cards 253, 261, 267, 268, 271 and 275 were never issued). The set is loaded with stars, including #1 Robinson (PSA GOOD 2), 27 Campanella (PSA EX-MT 6), 37 Mathews (PSA EX-MT 6), 54 Feller (EX), 61 Wynn SP (EX+), 62 Irvin (EX-MT), 76 Reese (EX+, some roller damage on edges), 77 Mize (NM+), 82 Mantle (PSA GOOD+ 2.5), 86 Martin (EX-MT), 104 Berra (PSA EX-MT 6), 114 Rizzuto (EX+, oc), 191 Kiner (NM+), 207 Ford (PSA EX 5), 220 Paige (PSA EX 5) and 244 Mays (EVID TRIM). Other cards worth noting include #168 Schmidt (PSA NM 7), 245 Norman (PSA NM 7) 248 Stephens (PSA NM 7), 254 Roe (PSA NM 7) and 280 Bolling (EX-MT). This is an exceptional set, with cards grading 20% NM or better, 30% EX-MT to NM, 30% EX, 10% VG-EX and 10% slightly lesser. The high numbers are of equally high grade, and virtually all cards have a level of gloss seldom seen in a 65+ year old set. A real beauty of a set; a few upgrades will make it world class. Make it your own! Total of 271 cards.

Part of The William J. Landherr Collection, this hobby fresh collection sources from a single owner who collected sets and was very meticulous about acquiring the highest quality.
